Find the position of an item in a list:
import java.util.ArrayList;
public class Main {
public static void main(String[] args) {
ArrayList<String> cars = new ArrayList<String>();
cars.add("Volvo");
cars.add("BMW");
cars.add("Ford");
cars.add("Mazda");
System.out.println(cars.indexOf("Ford"));
}
}
Definition and Usage
The indexOf() method returns the position of the first occurrence of a value in the list. If the item is not found in the list then it returns -1.

public int indexOf(Object item)
